MATTER
Matt Seigel is a familiar face on the southern California music scene. He is well- known as a music producer, composer, performer, and teacher.
Seigel recently wrote and co-produced six original songs including the opening and finale for a major motion picture entitled Love ‘N Dancing. He has remixed songs for Sony/ATV and is currently finishing up his second solo album. He has also written, produced, and engineered for a wide range of musical artists and genres, including and not limited to funk, hip-hop, symphonic, jazz, down-tempo, experimental, reggae, rock, and many different forms of electronic.
As his alter-ego MATTER, he has 10 years of professional turntable experience, spinning every genre of music while amazing crowds with his unique scratching style, seemingly effortless mixing and incredible knowledge of music and timing. Over the last year MATTER has perfected a visual show to accompany his live act that is both thought provoking and mind-altering. Both by himself and also as a founding member of one of the largest independent bands in Los Angeles, MUDluscious, he has shared the stage with many well-known artists including; The Prodigy, Z-Trip, Qbert, Cut Copy, The Presets, Faust & Shortee, Lupe Fiasco, Peanut Butter Wolf, Dilated Peoples, Lyrics Born, The Roots, Mr. Choc, DJ Swamp, De La Soul, D-Styles, Mike Relm, DJ Revolution, Styles of Beyond, J-Rocc and many more. He has spun events for Nike, Adidas, Verizon Wireless, 2oth Century Fox, Scion (including the L.A. Auto Show 2005-2007), Filter, L.A. Weekly, TOMS Shoes, Rock & Republic, Bloomingdale’s, Trunk Ltd., Red Bull, and currently has a sponsorship with Atwater Clothing.
Blessed with a tremendous work ethic and focused organizational skills, Seigel augments his busy schedule as a Professor at Scratch DJ Academy in Los Angeles, where he teaches three classes; Introduction to DJing, Mixing, and Beat-Making, for which he wrote the curriculum. Additionally, he works as an A&R for Lasky Records (a digital distribution company) and has signed numerous acts. He has demo-ed products for Native Instruments at NAMM and has worked with Numark/Akai/Alesis to develop new DJ and recording equipment. Seigel’s commitment to music and our community has also led him to donate his time teaching at-risk youth as part of the “Hip-Hop Leaders” program.
Finally, MATTER is the co-owner of this wonderful company we call INSTRUMENTAL.
